Among The Bones / Henryspenncer - Split EP

Split EP by Among The Bones / Henryspenncer

A trans-channel bout of post-rock, dark ambience and subtle shamanic doom here from England's Among The Bones and the awkwardly named Frenchers, Henryspenncer. One of those names you'll recommend to friends far and wide, all of whom will be cursing you as they keep on getting the Wikipedia entry for a "Canadian computer programmer and space enthusiast"...What to say about this? They offer up one lengthy track each, the Parisians up first with their Morricone meets Sunn O))) cosmic mind-fuck. Dense, spacey and absorbing. Not as heavy as expected. Quarter of an hour long but it could go on for ages more, I like it because it unfolds in such a considered manner and even though it becomes quite apocalyptic leading to the conclusion, it never takes the obvious "metal" route. More cerebral than punishing!! Among the Bones are even less pummeling than the French outfit, opting instead for a kind of slow campfire desert boogie led in by some beautiful field recordings and led back out again with some tentative post-rock exploration and wibbling astrally-inclined electronics and then the twittering birds return to the frame, for a while shrouded in the fuzzy coda of a ricocheting feedback loop. My favourite of the two, this is a very lovely piece of music.

This opus is the result of a collaboration between two artists : one English (Among The Bones) the other French (Henryspenncer), both having composed one track for the release. Henryspenncer's "The Amazon" is a vast voyage, as epic as it’s hypnotic and Among The Bones' "Pyramid of Sacrifice", a long and droning tribal ritual, both form two chapters of the same story. A mystical journey through an unexplored and alien jungle. Heavy cardboard digifile CD / 2 tracks (27'02) / Ltd 150

Track list:

01 / HENRYSPENNCER "The Amazon" (15'33'')

02 / AMONG THE BONES "Pyramid Of Sacrifice" (11'30'')
