Locked/Pyramid by Four Tet (Fourtet)

4...according to our on Thu 15 Sep, 2011.

I know nowt about these tracks, they only landed yesterday but teasing snatches appear on his new Fabric mix. 'Locked' is a long, beautiful mid-paced stroller with some delicious "moomin" synth wibbles and an irresistible almost Balearic keyboard motif scattered throughout the deep shuffling groove. Soulful, tenderly percussive, peaceful and evocative, this is just absolute classic Four Tet, taking a sprinkling of influence from many genres but ultimately turning out sounding purely Hebden. Which is more than you can say for the thumping, jacking house monster 'Pyramid' which also evolves into another potential Four Tet classic as those glistening chime-like effects begin to build halfway through. They tragically drop out three quarters of the way in to let the remainder of the tune play out in tough, gurning floor-ripping fashion. I'd like to give this full marks but only 'Locked' is right up there for me, absolutely essential twelve regardless, he's on fire for that track...
