Ducktails - Killin the Vibe

The artist formerly known as Matt Mondanile returns with a new EP that's every bit as swathed in fuzzy nostalgia as anything in his canon. The title track is great. It's called "Killing The Vibe" and it does anything but. It's such a good song. It gets by on a heady use of fuzz and dynamics...and a little help from Panda Bear, Dent May and Jarvis Taveniere. It has to be the most memorable thing I've heard for ages. The rest of the EP is proper high quality. In fact the hit ratio is pretty high. The second track "Sit Around With Ya" is also a blissful, warm classic. Track 3 is called "Couch Surfer" and nails down relaxing and the comfort of a good chair to a tee. The proceedings are brought to a close by a live version of "Killin 'The Vibe" which is brought to life by a little help from Leeds's own Spectrals, who rock it up...but thankfully retain its hazy potency. EP of the week? I reckon...come bask in its warm glow. His next album will be a belter I wager...
