There's somebody at the door. Angela Valid is here to invite you into her chuntering sound-hole. This is an LP which comprises three long improvised pieces which transport you into the dark mechanical realms of her twisted mind. This seems to be a combination of live improvisations and tape manipulation, building tones on top of one another from stuttering, dripping awkwardness to a grating, clanking drone juggernaut. It's like the soundtrack to some post-apocalyptic rag-and-bone man, trading tin cans for human souls. This is some pretty seriously creepy late night listening. You probably shouldn't bust it out on a first date proclaiming it to be your "favourite thing ever".
Announcing the eponymously titled 3 track LP from Angela Valid.... recorded in one live session, one afternoon in Autumn 2010, using guitars, drums, violin, sampler, thumb piano, trombone and a banjo. As a result of AV's improvised approach to recording, all three pieces have only been performed the once, and are proudly presented here on their 3rd release for London-based collective World in Winter Recordings. Taking in far too many influences to mention (previous reviews have made comparisons to Tortoise, This Heat & Ashtray Navigations to name but a few), AV conjure up a surprisingly atmospheric hogo... leading listeners on a cinematically inclined march over barren windswept vistas, obfuscating, clunksome, groove-dungeons and vast, humid sound deltas. The A side contains no edits. Side V was edited to fit the vinyl. There are no overdubs Previous releases by Angela Valid have aroused the following praise/suspicions: REVIEWS OF SPLIT 7" "...pulsing sideways into brightly lit hallways with noticeably druggy footsteps." THE WIRE (issue 263) "...pleasing instrumental post rocky piece with an improvised mantra ish feel to it. Lovely and well worth a punt! " Norman Records
