Anthony Shake Shakir Meets BBC Oni Ayhun Meets Shangaan Electro by Anthony Shake Shakir / Oni Ayhun

There's a classic tough Detroit groove to Shakir's side here. My only complaint is that it's not long enough. Beginning like Liquid Liquid, all hi-hats and cowbells, before a strutting synth stabs left, then right into infinity, the blistering floor-scorching disco beat and well chosen samples are carried by the relentless hands-in-the-air groove of the whole thing. This is such a classic full-bodied remix that I can't stop smiling. Or that may be all the coffees Mike keeps making me? But it's the flip by the Knife's Olof Dreijer under his Oni Ayhun guise that steals the show for me here. Heavily percussive and hypnotically layered, this is an airy, bouncy tribal epic with a looped old-skool thump/cymbal flourish/thump of a beat some absolutely crackers vocal sample pitching and whatnot going on. It ends up being the most vibrant and original of the whole set of remixes I've heard from this series - uncategorisable, giddy, relentless and wild and I reckon (if you're crazy enough to be in charge of the music at a student party) you could probably mix it into the Prodigy's Firestarter in a DJ set, it kicks ass that much!! How versatile is that? Slicing stuff...

Fiercely brilliant, slashing, whooping dance music from the Knife man — all-original, no samples — and a stonking Detroit thumper from the master.
