Mute have a flagship new signing, a male/female duo - the lady, a free transfer signing from Pull in Emergency and the gentleman a deadline day utility squad player, their shtick according to a recent irritating Guardian feature is a new breed of will-they-won't-they rom-com sex pop with added raciness as he's 29 and she's... oh I dunno 12 or something. The story being he met her after befriending her mother at the school gates and the rest is particularly murky history. Well they desperately need an angle as this debut 7" is a very bland slab of acoustic fuzzy strumming not unlike a Ting Tings raised solely on Mazzy Star. The B side is a little more dark with the lyric 'Does your mom (mum) still pack your lunch" leaping out of the speakers like Jonathan King at a particularly impressionable teenager circa 1972. Take away the paedo pop element and its just what it is - reasonable barely memorable harmonised acoustic pop.
