As of this review being written, this band have actually never played live, so I think it's kind of good going that they've managed to talk anyone into putting this out, but put it out Transgressive have...and it's a pretty interesting single. On this record, Theme Park give us a couple of tracks of pristine indie pop with synths and drum machines aplenty and devastatingly catchy vocal hooks. It reminds me of that 'Chunk of Change' EP that Passion Pit kicked off their career with and then never really topped. Some real casual and carefree summer vibes here, but with a lot of attention to detail too. It feels like something that was made for fun but I guess if they're putting out vinyl before they're playing gigs these guys are pretty ambitious. So hey, if you don't like it it'll probably be eBay gold next year anyway. Each one comes with a unique photo with a handwritten thank you message from the band, too. Bless.
London-based quintet Theme Park have announced details of their debut
single, which will be released worldwide digitally and via a strictly limited
edition run of just 250, hand-numbered 7"-vinyls on Monday August 29th
2011.
The single will also serve as the debut release of new label imprint,
paradYse, formed by the makers of the ever-evolving Transgressive
stable.
'A Mountain We Love' is the sort of addictive yet emotive electronic guitar
pop that will soundtrack summers, with chiming guitars, infectious
percussive samples and sumptuously restrained vocals from twin brother
frontmen Miles and Marcus Haughton. 'Wax', meanwhile, is epic balladry
of the most subtle order - within 20 seconds, one of the choruses of the
year ensnares the listener and immediately affirms Theme Park's position
as one of the most exciting new songwriting forces in our midst today,
managing to attain that rare balance of feeling comfortingly familiar and yet
not sounding like anyone else.
The band's first - and only currently scheduled - live performance will be a
single launch party to support the release, occurring at London's
Lexington venue on Wednesday August 31st.
For entry to the show tickets will be solely on a reserve basis by emailing
names for the paradYse guestlist to events@rockfeedback.com, ensuring
£5 entry. Please make sure to put the word paradYse in the subject line.
Theme Park comprise the aforementioned Haughtons, who share singing
and guitar duties, as well as third guitarist Oscar Manthorpe and Louis
Bhose on bass.
