Country tinged indie rock from these Belfast types who by all accounts are one of the hottest acts on the scene right now...ON THE SCENE!! They have quite a grandiose sound that you might even call cinematic...if you were a massive twat. If you can imagine a sort of cross between the Bonanza! soundtrack and something a bit more experimental a la Phil Spector then you might be halfway there. These guys have quite a lot going on in their sound, if you listen you will definitely hear more sixties influences (The Byrds) and more contemporary sounding stuff like Arcade Fire at their most pompous...not that there's anything wrong with a bit of pomp in modern music. Not everybody's into navel gazing ,y'know. This single is an ambitious effort that is quite powerful and dramatic at the same time. Heady stuff. Comes with a free backstage pass for the upcoming Freddie Starr tour, "...I've Starr-ted, so I'll Finish"...
Wonderful debut single from belfast five-piece cashier no 9 (who have just signed to bella union), which was produced by none other than david holmes and mixed by hugo nicolson of screamadelica, boys own and in rainbows fame. 'goldstar' conjures up a warm feeling of summer-evening-good-times-by the-sea, with echo and the bunnymen, the byrds, teenage fanclub, joy zipper, phil spector and creation-era primal scream breezing from the radio. the flip is a remix by the hotly-tipped electronic outfit keyboard choir.
