...and talking of Sun Araw. 'Major Grotto' is one of a batch of three awesome tapes (the other two being Righteous Acid and Leeds's very own Hookworms) in from Sun Araw dude and Sun Ark label owner Cameron Stallone. This is a special Sun Ark repress of his Australian tour EP from back in 2010 and features two multi layered cuts of the psych psych psychedelic (HO!) kind. I'm totally taken by Mr. Stallone's style. Not only is he consistently fantastic live (unlike most in his field) but he's probably one of the nicest American dudes I've ever had the pleasure to meet. You may know him from his work with Pocahaunted and Magic Lanterns but it's the solo stuff that really does it for me. His previous EPs have been class in a (bong) glass and this tape is no exception. On the A-side ('Major Grotto') expect mildly disorientating and heavily multi-tracked layers of warm church organ, African percussion, blissful and exuberant guitar solo's and abstract vocals. It sounds like a companion piece to the 'On Patrol' material and it kicks ass. Flip that beauty ('Krale') and Stallone gets into the New Age zone with a light handed, beat free wig out that again features willingly naive and totally believable wahtar freakery. Limited to 200, this is a must have item for you tape deck owning types out there. Get the Hookworms tape too, it's triple mint!!! Nice one Cameron, keep up the good work boss.
A repress of a tour-only cassette from October 2010's trip down under, most of the original batch never made it out of the sunburnt continent. Two programmatic meditations, generated in the same somewhat formal method of gradually blossoming revelation and overlay.
