Whoa! This yellow vinyl is, erm, very yellow. The first side has Skudge remixing Instra:mental. It's a floor friendly techno number with little builds and drops, the kick drum is pretty clicky and there's a big old bassline that makes it dubstep compatible. Then there are some oldskool rave stabs for good measure. Not peaktime stuff but a decent tool for building a set up. The Boddika tune 'Grand Prix' on the underside is the one for me. It's on the dark tip, building with creepy atmospherics and sharp phazing hi-hats. Things are 4/4 mid tempo and really build up nicely and before I know it I'm totally sucked into the hypnotic groove, and then some swishing rides kick in with some laser pulses and things change gear. I love the sinister feel throughout and I reckon this 12" is well worth picking up for this track. I'm giving this five stars for the Boddika track. The Skudge remix didn't do that much for me really.
Limited Coloured Vinyl pressing. One of my big favourite Instra tunes is Vicodin (released with Let’s Talk – a dark, foreboding dubstep classic) and it gets a makeover by Skudge who are getting mentions everywhere right now. Check this track; even the waveform looks f***in’ dark! Skudge warp it into something between dubstep and house but with all the downer-rhythm that really makes this track. Along with the remix there’s more from Boddika in Grand Prix. Short and sweet little hypnotic bounce track with serious dancability.
