Not a firm of solicitors as you may think but time again for a Clint's Improvisational Mayhem Corner and the latest in the line of the lovely looking and popular Rural Route series. The blurb on the sleeve describes this as 'Edited from a perfromance that utilized live mixing and processing of field recordings, instrumentation and piezoelectric devices'. They manage to spell 'performance' wrong presumably because they spent so long trying to find out what piezoelectric meant (apparently the 'relation between a mechanical stress and an electrical voltage in solids' according to Mr Google). I could spend the rest of the review Wire writer-like trying to find my own long words trying to describe this...or I could just sum it up as 'terrifying drones redolent of the late night drone of industrial landscapes'. Yet the whole thing is strangely soothing and 15 minutes in, when a kind of splintered piano comes in I've realised that I've been enjoying it for quite some time. It's an improvised drone 'supergroup' of sorts featuring Jeremy Bible, Jason Henry and Dan Burke and as Phil constantly reminds me, despite the lack of traditional musicality on offer, this kind of low end hum is apparently extremely popular amongst the record buying public.
Edited from a improvisational performance that took place in Kingsport, TN on August 14th, 2008. It marked the first meeting between the duo of Jeremy Bible & Jason Henry and Dan Burke (aka Illusion of Safety). The perfromance utilized live mixing and processing of field recordings, instrumentation, and piezoelectric devices. The resulting recordings were then passed between the three artists and edited in several iterations until arriving in its final incarnation.
