JBE/ Bill Dolan - Split

Split by JBE/ Bill Dolan

This is a nice surprise. Two acoustic tracks from master guitarist Bill Dolan of 5ive Style/Heroic Doses/Das Boton fame. This guy is triple nifty on the old six string and even when stripped down to a solo acoustic performance Mr. Dolan's skills are still very much apparent. These two instrumental ditties hark back to traditional songwriting methods and brings to mind pre-electric blues, (almost medieval) folk and the 'hot jazz' playing technique of Django Reinhardt. This guy could write music in his sleep that would still be worthy of release. A formidable player. JBE I'm not familiar with but they seem to be Six Gun Lover favourites (this is one of two JBE splits we've received this week) so we may be hearing more from them in the future. Mike's immediately gravitating toward these San Francisco inspired Graham Nash-esque sounds with enquires as to what and who it is so that's a good sign. Guess these guys are on a soulful alt. country tip that reminds me of Jim O'Rourke's Drag City releases. It's breezy, delightful stuff. Packaged in a fancy Stumptown style folded sleeve jobby.

2 acoustic tracks from Sub Pop's Bill Dolan (5ive Style, Das Boton). Melancholy dittys, fast fingers. JBe brings to mind Graham Nash with tracks "Ferment The Taste" and "Claw From The Sky". Limited Edition, 500 copies, black vinyl.
