I also missed the 7" this Brum-based gang of folk-botherers threw into the underground musical network recently. It certainly sounds like they peddle an authentic brand of rousing traditional folk rock and flower-power-flecked whimsy. With a neat six tracks to run through it ain't gonna folk you off too much either. I think six tracks is enough to put up with from most bands and gives you a good idea of how wide (or narrow) their repertoire is. I think they've definitely been studying their classics and they bring a homely British skiffle-y edge to such influences as Simon & Garfunkel, Dylan & Love. I'm also impressed by their nod to contemporary European cinema (nearly) in their moniker, a very lovely film indeed. Impassioned and earthy with a whimsical soul, this bunch are indeed on the same wavelength as our fave rustic pretty boy Johnny Flynn. I implore the Caravan-meisters to do a limited run of this on 12" wax as that sleeve is adorable.

Ever wondered what ‘DeJa Vu’ would sound like if it had been recorded by the La’s in a Digbeth studio, Birmingham and with Robin Pecknold at the controls? Well sort of, here is the new record from Goodnight Lenin, a 17 min aural waterbed of a rural midlands dream. Frankly the band have gigged their pants off in the last year and built up a solid audience before entering the studio with Tim Felton (Seeland) and Brian Duffy (Modified Toy Orchestra) to help advance the fertile skiffle of their debut seven and nail that Greenwich Village Elektra DNA. For fans of Fleet Foxes, Johnny Flynn, Tunng and Laura Marling CD edition ltd to 500 copies.

The band will launch the record with a a show at the MAC the gig which will take place in the outdoor amphitheatre will welcome up to 450 fans to celebrate the release with special guests The Travelling Band  appearing before Goodnight Lenin take to the stage.

Goodnight Lenin are a five piece band from Birmingham made up of Fell (Guitar/Vocals), Conway (Guitar/Vocals), McCreedy (Violin/Mandolin/Piano/Vocals), Sherlock (Bass/Vocals) & Berry (Drums) They have released one single to date through Static Caravan ‘Crook In The Creek’ - Catalogue number VAN218 The artwork, like for Crook In The Creek, has been licensed by the American Folk Artist Clare Rojas
