In Nightfall by Seabuckthorn

Ah, the mighty Seabuckthorn is back with a new mini album jobbie. Well it's 7 tracks long totalling 20 minutes-ish. I never know where a single finishes, a mini album starts and ends before you get to a full length album? I guess there's not set rules. As it's 7 tracks and 20 minutes-ish I'm gonna settle with a mini album. After two sold out releases here's his third in a hand sprayed arigato pak type job. This one is more stripped back as it's essentially guitar workouts with a exotic psychedelic twinge to it. At times it's very exotic sounding and considering the whole release is pretty much just guitar it keeps your attention neatly with lots of interesting twists and turns. Fans of Blackshaw, Fahey, Turnquist, Cam Deas, early Voice Of The Seven Woods will find enjoyment here. The melodies get stuck under your skin and on my second listen I'm starting to think this is brilliant. I really like this guys music and if you're into the above chaps then I reckon you owe it to yourself to check it out.

Seabuckthorn's psychedelic folk is lead by a voluble but never demonstrative acoustic guitar, often accompanied by more electric and ghostly sounds. Both dense and warm, In Nightfall's melodies weave a poetic tinge of melancholy. This fourth album is an accomplished work that impresses by its humility and consistency.
