Amon Tobin - Surge

Surge by Amon Tobin

This is a single, yeah? It's a stuttering, metronomic swaying thing that resembles a nostalgic machine trying to recreate some of the most dramatic musical moments of the last 80 years. It sounds like stunted industrial ballroom music remixed by Chris Clark or summat. It doesn't sound like the kind of thing that radio-play dreams are made of. I've no idea what is actually going on but I like it, especially by the time we get stuck into the fantastic Two Fingers remix which mashes it all up a bit more with some propulsive, stomping dubstep-style beats and loads of wibbling, tranced out electronic jiggery-pokery. This particular remix truly does the track justice, creating a bit of an ugly/beautiful monster in the process. With a tender, brief and atmospheric vocal version from the honey voiced Emika and a juddering wobble-core dubstep offering from 16 Bit (bit migraine-inducing this, I must be getting old!) it all makes for a cool EP from the mercurial Brazilian.

First single from the critically acclaimed new album 'ISAM'.

Featuring remixes from Emika, 16Bit and Two Fingers.

Heavyweight vinyl in transparent sleeve with special insert featuring artwork from Saatchi Collection artist Tessa Farmer.
