The Enablers have always been a fantastic band both live and in the studio and new album 'Blown Realms And Stalled Explosions' was never going be an exception to that rule. Much like Baltimore's Lungfish, The Enablers have crafted a unique sound from the interplay of spoken word narratives and tight jazz influenced post-rock jams. The band themselves are dynamic, ultra-tight and insanely consistent in their approach. The music fluctuates between melodic subtlety and outright rhythmical dynamics at the click of a stick and proves that, with the addition of Doug Scharin (June Of 44, HIM, Mice Parade) on drums they are now the last great reminder of post-rock's past glories. Vocalist Pete Simonelli's spoken word poetry sits calmly within the music making casual, intimate observations in his wry husky Chicago drawl. His voice reminds me of many others (Waits, Brian McMahan, Gil Scott Heron, Johnny Cash) but still maintains an instantly identifiable and ultimately appealing delivery. This really takes me back. Great record.
Super deluxe vinyl version. 10 new tracks from this unique band, the sound has evolved since the last full LP release 'Tundra', still with the intense dynamic guitar play between Joe Goldring and Kevin Thomson and the weaving in of Pete Simonelli's words, but now featuring Doug Scharin (Codeine, Rex, Him, June of 44 . . ) on drums! This is a confident record still with the distinct elements of musicianship and imagination that made the previous releases so engaging but one that is moving forward into new sounds, new realms. Not to be missed - go listen!!! This is a split release between Lancashire & Somerset and the rather great label Exile On Mainstream (Germany) ltd to 500 hand numbered copies, in a card fold sleeve with metallic ink, with colour insert, on 180g pure virgin vinyl, pressed at PALLAS - audiophile pressing plant in Germany. Best quality you can get these days in Europe - so grab it while you can!
