Jenny O. is a singer/songwriter from New York, NY, now residing in Los Angeles, CA. She is a guitarist and pianist with a background in rock, jazz and classical music, and cites influences from the Grateful Dead to pop. Jenny attended the Purchase Conservatory of Music for Recording and Composition and spends much of her time playing and singing with other artists. She has one self-produced EP, Home (2010 Manimal Vinyl), and in 2009 completed a full-length album, produced by Raine Maida of Our Lady Peace and Jason Lader. Jenny’s music can also be heard on adverts ranging from Target to J-Crew as well as the upcoming tribute record to Buddy Holly that also features Paul McCartney, Lou Reed, Patti Smith, CeeLo and many others. The first song on the EP, "Well, OK Honey", wins me over completely with her unembarrassed and proud proclamation "I'm a hippie!" part way into the lyric. Actually it appears to be a song about navigating a relationship with someone very different from yourself, and it's also one of the most up-tempo songs on the EP, as the numbers become progressively more introspective and probing. The lilting quality of Jenny O's songwriting is tempered by an undercurrent of melancholy that grounds her compositions and makes one consider her considerable gifts as a writer. Her voice can purr and coo one minute and explode with passion the next, as in "All My Wishes", about getting out of a situation with someone after all your hopes are dashed. "Won't Let You Leave" is a jaunty melody, with some country-style guitar picking, dealing with dependence, "I Do I Do" and "Home" are like parts one and two of a single song, with the second part deepening the meaning of the first. Both songs are piano-based with a winsome, Joanna Newsom-ish quality, touched with autumnal colors. As "Home" has a feeling of resolution to it, the short five-song set gives one the sense that it was very well thought out as each new composition deepens and enlarges the meaning of the previous songs. A reflection of folky west coast cheeriness...” American Songwriter.
