Merzbow - Yaho-Niwa

Masami Akita continues his mission with his debut disc for Nuun's Climax series which gets going with the scorching sounds of twenty minute monster 'Glowing Red' which has enormous clattering metallic junk noise sounds, zoned out vocal drones and piercing jagged sonic pulses which occasionally sound like birds in despair. The overall image I'm given is birds on a conveyor belt about to be slaughtered by these evil machines which crunch away in a most terrifying way. It's no secret that a large amount of Akita's work is based around the horrors of killing animals for food, especially more recent works focusing on birds in particular. 'Yaho-Niwa' sounds like hundreds of digital cockerels and chickens all in despair as they face the slaughter, bearing all the hallmarks of top notch power electronics cacophony. 'Venis #4'  features lots of skittering synthesized percussion under huge slabs of plate tectonic doom and howling sci-fi synth oscillations. Finally 'Metal 22' is probably the more brutally harsh and relentless track on the album with pummeling blasts of crunching explosive sound that feel like meteorites impacting straight into my skull. This will blow the fuckin' cobwebs out.
