I'm really intrigued by this new Zomby material. Especially curious as to why old ethereal cathedral 4AD have signed him! That is until I heard 'Natalia's Song' which is a lush, pretty thing. As is this, a heavyweight collectors sampler with two mesmerising upfront cuts. His trademark android synths still twinkle and fizz distinctively and excite me no end but the tempo of his music here has taken on a more dream-like gait. 'A Devil Lay Here' is built from a fluid, quizzical bassline and these old classic-sounding synths that occasionally recall some of Global Goon's more reflective early material. The whole tune I find incredibly touching and very beautiful. You can tell he's been around for years as his sound reflects a studious attention to detail that absorbs the finest from all eras of electronic music whilst keeping things progressive and fresh. 'Basquiat' is a more sombre piano-laden affair that may shock many. Accompanied by a daunting druid-esque synth line and nothing else but atmosphere, this is a remarkable, eyebrow-raising teaser for this forthcoming album. There's only a 1000 pressed for the world and you know what 4AD collectors are like so don't fanny around kids.
Strictly limited to 1000 only for UK & Eire, Zomby returns with a taster of two tracks from his new album "Dedication" (released 11th July on 4AD). The heavyweight 7" is packaged in a plain black sleeve and plastic outer.
