Joseph Coward - Jesus Christ / Worry Wart

Joseph Coward’s debut single entitled ‘Jesus Christ’ is set for release on July 4th on O Genesis, the new label set up by Tim Burgess of The Charlatans. Also produced by Burgess, the release marks the introduction of an 18-year-old talent with a new perspective on a grey and unforgiving London.

Smartly attired and quietly mannered, Joseph believes music to be about communication. His vocal delivery captures elements of Arthur Russell with a lyrical eloquence of Morrissey as he delivers lyrics loaded with Biblical imagery that seek to explore the self in a hostile world. Routine, boredom, difficult relationships and the confusion of youth are regular themes of his songwriting.

Joseph performs a captivating, stripped back set of just him, his guitar and a drummer. But what allows him to stand alone from the singer/songwriter crowd is a raw and emotional energy, and a steadfast clarity of vision.
