Deserter's Songs has been remixed and remastered in a special Instrumental Edition, accentuating the orchestral cosmic-fantasia of this epic space-rock americana classic in full 3D cinematic scope! Long-time friend (and original bass player) Dave Fridmann has created instrumental mixes of all of the tracks excluding 'Goddess On A HiWay," which has been instrumentally mixed by Peter Katis.
Incorporating elements of folk, jazz, '60s and '70s rock, and even Disney soundtrack fantasia, these sweeping orchestrations heralded Mercury Rev's rebirth as purveyors of a cosmic brand of the popular American songbook.
A paradoxical, unconventional record, Deserter's Songs turned heads and ended up an unexpected, worldwide hit. In 1998, the album was named "Album of the Year" by NME, MOJO and many other publications. More recently, Deserter's Songs made Pitchfork's "Top 100 Albums of the 1990's" list.
