Woom on Hoof by Deerhoof / Woom

Greg Saunier continues his mission to decontruct Deerhoof's 10th (!!!) studio album 'Vs Evil' with a collection of collaborative reinterpretations and remixes. This is the third in a continuing series of 7"s that have previously featured Physical Forms and Xiu Xiu. This one stars Woom who take the original instrumentation of 'Wichikapache Fights The Current' and add a new self composed vocal line. It's a weird one because it doesn't really add or take anything away from the original it just exists as a variation with a cool spoken word style tale over the top. Very odd. Flip it and you get Greg's take on Woom's 'Quetzalcoatl's Ship'. This is totally awesome and justifies the cost of this 7". Don't know the original track but it's obvious he's added his own drums and totally monkey'd with the arrangement of what sounds like a beautiful, post-Deerhoof style art-pop song. It's short but incredibly sweet. Comes on ltd. clear vinyl.

· ‘Woom On Hoof’ is the latest in a series of
collaborative 7”s featuring guest vocalists singing
self-composed lyrics and vocal melodies over a
Deerhoof instrumental track.

· Side A features SF / NYC-based Woom (Ba Da
Bing) on Deerhoof’s ‘Must Fight Current’.

· Side B features the Woom song ‘Quetzalcoatl’s
Ship’ mixed by Deerhoof drummer Greg Saunier.

· All previous 7”s in this series (with Physical Forms
and Xiu Xiu) sold out before release date.

· “16 years into a career that has inspired brainiac
bands from Radiohead to Dirty Projectors,
Deerhoof could justifiably be described as art-pop
elder statesmen” – Q.
