Panda Bear - Surfer's Hymn (Actress Primitive Patterns Extended Mix)

Yeah, you all bought this already except it was ridiculously truncated on the flip of his last 7". I bought it, got it home, quivering all over with excitement and then, just as I was sinking into the hypnotic, dream-like trance I was yearning for, the bastard thing finished. Then I DJ'd with it a week later and again, it concluded just as it was beginning to take effect. Thank fuck these German techno bods decided to release the full odyssey on quality 12" vinyl even though they've merely etched the flip with the sleeve design from the 7". To be honest any other bonus tracks would sink into oblivion after this relentless funk-tastic astral bruiser melts yer feet off. There's so much wild euphoric percussive joy to be had from this epic remix not to mention the rustling loop of gentle industrial noise that forms the subtle undercurrent that gets under your skin. Finally a brief snippet of Panda Bear's vocal is sampled and looped for much of the second half, creating a real tribal call-to-arms feel. This is a discreet monster of the dancefloor, but not some bloody trendy of-the-moment indie dance cash-in or kiddie-electro fashionista London club nightmare. Actress gives it his all here, one of the most fevered, possessed things I've heard him create. Reckon this would blow people's minds mixed in after some prime Shackleton...respect. x
