LA Vampires ft. Ital - Streetwise

This is a damn good 12". I didn't really hear the last Ital record but I heard Business Lady talking it up a tad. LA Vampires previous collaboration (with Matrix Metals) was amazing though so I'm eager to get my sweaty shell-likes around this. The overall feel I'm getting is not that dissimilar from the aforementioned LP. Streetwise' has a ethereal dream-pop chug with multi-tracked vocal edits swarming above a chinking mogadon grumble which kind of sounds like ambient music made by a load of smackheads. Imagine an embryonic Royal Trux doing a chillwave song then you'll understand exactly what I'm trying to elaborate on. I dig 'Tons of Love' lots too, a pulverising slo-house industrial/tropical shit-storm with hazy dream-like vocals. This is a proper sludgy stomper of a track. It sounds like giant lead-filled boots are dancing on a sea bed. Ant sums it up with "Like a Balearic record with a shit-load of fluff stuck to the needle". Wonderful and quite possibly one of the most wild pop songs I've heard this month. Flippin' over we get 'A Woman is A Woman' which has got a real fine murky groove going on. Comin' atcha with a lightly muffled deep-as-fuck disco bassline, a blurred clap of a beat with a sharper strutting hi-hat and loads of subtly distorted psychedelic dub effects all conspire to make this make this a highly prized tune. Her vocals are the usual warped drugged-out monotone yawn which suits the vibe down to the ground. Things continue in wicked style with this heavily industrialised, grainy take on early 90s house/R'n'B called 'The Chic Will Inherit the Earth'. Submerged tropicalia and fucked-up spectral sounds conspire to mess with your head, the ghostly undercurrent of actual "song" sounds like it's spilling like noxious gas from the toilet window of a cheesy neon-lit club, into the diseased alley (of your mind) round the back. It, like much of this innovative record, sounds curiously messed-up but somehow utterly vital too.
