God I'm getting all the crazy electronic records this week. That is normally our Ant's forte but he's too busy grimacing sternly into the faces of numerous boxes of records to care. I loved that 'Fountain Square' EP by this Bristolian chapster - It's constantly at the top of my must-play pile at home all the time. It keeps on creeping back to the front to have another "go" on my record player like some kind of crazed, sly kid that's addicted to a certain type of rollercoaster. This very exciting live album is way chock full of slightly woozy, dubby rhythms, fizzing cosmic synthesis and deep, ricocheting analogue pulses. It sounds really old but completely futuristic. There are no real 'beats' as such but you can certainly mind-dance to the plunging industrial echoes and robot-like strutting rhythms contained herein. It sounds like a modular trip-out made in some fantastical English Industrial heartland in the '70s but from another dimension and I want to stick it on really loud in a deserted warehouse and sit there buzzing away in the dark. 'Live @ Dubloaded' is bloody-minded, feral and rather deliciously trippy but what it really, really wants to do is come home with you just to get zingy and android on your mum's ass...
[These screenprinted sleeves are pretty fuckin' tasty, too. - Mike]
