Good ol' Marissa Nadler is back with a brand new album on her own label Box Of Cedar. It was one of those funded by fans thingies where folks pledge cash and once you hit the jackpot you eventually get something in the post you wanted. This is Marissa's fifth album and if you're not familiar with her brand of melty seductive singer songwriter acoustic pop then now is as good a time as any to get on board. Regular readers with elephant memories will remember that I'm a bit obsessed by her first couple of albums and I still get excited by a new Marissa album. The songs are as good as ever, the music is gentle and throughout the duration of the album you feel like you're being gently stroked. It's a calming affair and one which demands listening to. Her voice is the star of the show as it's nothing short of delightful. I prefer her more acoustic arrangements than the full band ones (which largely inhabit this album) but you can't have everything you want in life (something I learnt at a very early age which is when I realised there was no god). Fans of singer songwriter stuff need to check this lady out if you've not done that already (shame on you!).
