YO! Greatest Hits return with another fantastic slab of vinyl. God knows how they come up with this stuff but it rules!!! 'Freak Fun Boy' is a dirty ass funk number that brings to mind Herbie Hancock, Miami Sound Machine, Tito Jackson and a whole bunch of hi-energy electro funk pop pioneers. It's full-on hard grooves, sharp beats and falsetto vocals that are bound to satisfy all who venture out on to the dance floor. Much like Ford & Lopatin's monster effort lurking in the wings, 'Freak Funk Boy' is all my MIDI pop dream come true. Flip it and we are treated to an outrageous Art Of Noise meets Prince party jam entitled 'Fun Girls'. This ones totally killer! It starts with loads of synthesised vocal cut-ups before making way for a 'Little Red Corvette' style Miami beach theme that is a healthy reminder that not everything about modern experimental music is insular and shitty. Cheers lads. Fantastic single. This will no doubt soundtrack my non-existent summer.
