Got a tasty looking double 7" from San Diego's Christmas Island and Portland's Meth Teeth. Christmas Island impress with their shambolic take on the current trend for melodic garage influenced indie pop. The guitars are jangly and razor thin, the vocals totally dominate and it's recorded in the fuck you four track style. Like a cross between Ty Segall and Fergus & Geronimo. Very upbeat, joyous stuff. The second 7" brings the mood down a little with Meth Teeth's patented downer folk style. Definitely a lighter proposition than I was expecting though, opener 'Don't Come Home' sounds more in keeping with the rural folk pop vibe of Woods. Flip it and you get an enjoyable Pavement-esque folk rock out. Vocally these folks are a bit dour but they more than make up for it with cheeky melodic interplay and distorted guitar fuzz. Lairy indie rock fun. A must for all you lo-fi freaks out there.
Limited Edition of 400, hand silk screened. Having already released singles for HoZac and Sweet Rot and debut full-lengths for Woodsist and In The Red respectively, we’re nally ready to roll out the long awaited double 7” from Meth opposing sides of the same coin. San Diego’s Christmas Island don’t play holiday musicbut they do offer 2 sides of shambling melodic guitar and-xylophone driven bubblegum garage. The poppy vibes of the A-side “Ex-Beach” coupled with “Drawing Skulls”, a revved up slide-driven stomper serve as a counterpoint to Portland’s downer folk stalwarts Meth Teeth. Their dirge-like “Don’t Come Home” is coupled with “Control” a song whose loner vibes might be the last thing you’d want to hear while jacked outta your mind on amphetamines. Sadly Meth Teeth are now defunct but their core member Mattey Hunter continues to be active in the Portland scene and his new band, No, is even harder to google. Christmas Island toured with Wavves last year in addition to several headlining jaunts of their own. Bands have previous releases on Hozac , Woodsist and In The Red. Christmas Island have toured with Wavves.
