For those about to death rock we salute you!! Oneida's third and final installment of their "Thank Your Parents" series of releases is as every bit as ominous sounding and atmospheric as you like. It's very much japery of the conceptual kind. It's the kind of record that when it is played you can imagine your mind palace being attacked, shrouded in a sort of black oppressive smoke, and pig faced mercenaries storming into your chamber of sanctitude and proceeding to cut of your fingers and re-arranging your spice rack while squealing, yellow fluid dripping from their piggy maws. It's a record that has the following elements;-
1) Atmospheric sub bass type drones.
2) Industrial clanging rhythmic sounds.
3) Occasional inhuman screams that has been manipulated.
4) Atmospheric sub bass type drones.
5) Apocalyptic scrapings of guitar strings.
6) More clanging rhythmic sounds.
All in all its a great day out!! ONEIDA...loved by kids, despised by old folk!!!! This record is quite challenging. Which is no bad thing. Take a look...if you have the other parts of this unholy triptych then you know what to expect. If not be prepared for an unconventional and loud experience...
‘Absolute II’ is the final piece in Oneida’s ‘Thank Your Parents’ triptych of releases, begun in 2008with ‘Preteen Weaponry ‘and followed by 2009's acclaimed triple disc ‘Rated O’. The ‘Thank Your Parents’ triptych, totalling around 200 minutes, is intended to be listened to as a whole or in its component parts.
Oneida are a band that have been strongly identified with the frenetic, fluid drumming of Kid Millions and the relentless pulse of classic Krautrock, but this release contains neither audible drums nor identifiable ‘rock’ music. The recordings move freely across accepted boundaries of rhythm, harmony, and tonality – not in the form of dramatic, wilful experiment.
Oneida have in the past few years mounted long- form improvisatory audio-visual performance installations (under the billing ‘Oneida Presents The Ocropolis’), at All Tomorrow's Parties and in their own studio space. These events have consisted of multi-set performances and / or extended single performances (with those at ATP reaching 11 hours of continuous improvised music).
