The ‘Reggae Music’ EP is a four track advance teaser for Reggae Roast’s forthcoming ‘Lick It Back!’ compilation. Fast forging a reputation as a label connecting the dots between traditional reggae and UK Bass, recent releases on Reggae Roast have been well received by national radio and club DJs alike, with multiple plays on Radio 1, 1Xtra, Kiss 100 and Rinse FM. This new EP is set to follow suit with its infectious energy and cross-genre appeal. The title track is destined for heavy rotations as we approach the summer months, while the hard hitting dubstep remix will rattle chest cavities of unsuspecting ravers across the globe. The original mix is a perfectly formed slice of new British roots reggae, with it’s catchy hook and up-tempo rhythm. Earl 16’s lyrics comment on the current vitality of reggae music, which was once dismissed by some with the loss of many of its legendary originators. Nick Manasseh’s riddim track and dub mix hark back to the sweet sounds of Jamaica, while his crisp production values and modern clarity, highlight the strength of the current global resurgence of roots reggae. Mungo’s Hi Fi have really gone to town on the dubstep re-working, which possesses a much tougher edge, built to test the mightiest of speaker boxes. Overall this release demonstrates that, over 30s years since its creation, reggae music cant be refused and is consistently re-born with every new season of producers and vocal talents.
