Another limited 12" on Warp, this time by Bibio. I loved his first couple of albums and then lost interest but my interest has been rekindled by Mind Bokeh which I think is a sterling electronic pop album bustling with ideas. One of the highlights is 'K is For Kelson' which is a slab of summery retro pop with 'babada babada' vocals and some rather good 70's kids style TV theme keyboard sounds. Also there's an Afro vibe to it which will have you bouncing all over the shop whilst you're trying to remember the theme music to Jigsaw. Fun times... it's impossible to be depressed and listen to this... well I guess if your wife had left you, you'd lost your house and job and your entire family dies around you then you'd struggle to be happy with whatever was being played. This could possibly take the edge off...
· ‘K Is For Kelson’ is the infectious, summery new single
taken from Bibio’s new album ‘Mind Bokeh’ – one of the
most immediate and refreshing cuts on the record, which
itself has been one of the best received records of 2011 so
far.
· The single comes as a limited 4 track 12”, featuring an
alternative version of ‘K Is For Kelson’ as it’s lead track,
along with three new songs. In short, every track on this
single is so far unreleased.
· Vinyl is limited to 200 in the UK.
· Bibio is also in the process of firming up some live dates
where he’ll be playing a new electronic set for the first
time.
· “Crackled whimsy that’s a joy to dive into” – NME.
· “Inspired stuff” - Q Magazine.
· “A kaleidoscope landscape of woozy electronic tangents
and hazy, intricate alt.pop. A gloriously mind bending
collection. (It) pulses with a very human heart” - The Fly.
· “He creates melodies that you think you’ve heard
somewhere before, but wraps them up in off kilter pop
songs that sound like nothing else” - The Times.
· “These are glistening sonic fancies picked out in neon and
Day-Glo” – Uncut.
