This is a 7" of downbeat country/Americana from singer/songwriter Greg Ashley (The Gris Gris, The Mirrors, Strate Coats). The first track's a call-and-response type number with Ashley and a lass by the name of Kimberly Morrison alternating lines, accompanied by fingerpicked guitar. It seems to get slower as it goes along, and it certainly makes me want to drink, so if that's the intention then mission accomplished. The B-side's marginally less morose, with some fancy bar-room piano tinkling in the background. I want to make some kind of Mexican bummer joke but I'm not sure I have the motivation any more.
Greg Ashley (The Gris Gris, The Mirrors, Strate Coats, solo fame, record maker extraordinaire) continues along his path as a troubador, with two new countrified crooners which’ll find you alone, sittin’ at the bar in broad daylight, lookin’ down low. Skirting the line between legitimate Nashville tears in your beers and marvelous, near-classical new Americana folk, these two sorry sons-a-guns are slowly revealing the full count of Ashley’s skills as a singer, songwriter and arranger.
