Holy Other - With U

Haunting sounds and slow frequencies that swallow your mind like a easy to down tablet your thing? If so you should check out the new full length-er (?!) from Madchestahs finest or if you will most holy Holy Other (I nearly keep typing Holy Otter... hur hur!!)  I don't usually chow down on this type of thing, it has a bleak expressionless cover and a sort of gloomy feel that I find a bit..well...gloomy. I imagine people of Leeds circa mid 1980 would like listening to this in there big overcoats and floppy fringes. Leeds used to be like Berlin in the eighties a friend once told me. He was a good man who due to an accident at the lab that he used to work at was turned into a man with carrots for fingers and plate fungus for palms. Poor guy. Now he makes a career from hiding in vegetable shops and scaring off shoplifters. He isn't looking out for the vegetables....he is the vegetables!! Back to the LP by Holy Other and I have to say my initial reservations were roundly trounced . Its a surprisingly emotive record and not so gloomy as I predicted. It actually had me entranced for the short yet fulfilling run time. I found its down tempo beats and lush synths curiously affecting and disarmingly nostalgic. It reminded me of dancing on moonlit beaches with long lost lovers (I cant believe I like this sort of stuff..who'd have thunk it?? From Racey to maudlin dance music in the blink of an eye). It's smooth sensual and romantic... a bit like a weekend with Chris De Burgh or Nigel Havers. Its a dreamy record that stays with you long after you play it. If it can have this affect on some office schlep like me imagine what IT COULD DO FOR YOU!!!!
