Moon Wiring Club - Somewhere A Fox Is Getting Married

I'm not sure a fox is actually getting married but what I do know is that this comes in lavish packaging with preposterous sleeve and full size pull out poster. No expense spared. The music is like a bonkers take on Boards of Canada's hazy retro electronica infused with as many voice samples as you can shake a stick at. Analogue synths marry with lumpen beats in a stop/start affair that despite all the signs pointing towards mediocrity, actually comes together in an impressive style due somewhat to the sheer absurdity of sounds he hurls into the mix and the eerie soundtracky/synthy soundscapes. It all has a very home-made lo fidelity retro feel, rather like early Ninja Tune or perhaps the kind of cdr full of bedroom produced electronica that used to squirt through our letterbox in 2001 from kids trying to recreate the first Prefuse 73 album using a saw and a mop and bucket. The random samples will either annoy or delight depending on your viewpoint but if you love the cut and paste technique of the early days of experimental hip-hop production ala Machine Drum and Buck 65 - that haphazard DIY feel - this may well be a record to take you scurrying to your backpack-toting youth. This album has a lopsided appeal which ensures that the sheer breadth of attempted shoehorns of square samples into round holes means that there are so many ideas that plenty that hit the nail on the head.
