Grave Babies - Deathface

Deathface by Grave Babies

4...according to our on Thu 05 May, 2011.

Holy shit, clocking the artist and title and then the track names: Eating Babies, Drugs, Demons, Blood, Graves etc. I can tell this isn't gonna be child friendly. When the needle hits the grooves however it's not the extreme violent noise I was expecting, sure it's dark/ gothy with smatterings of dark electro and post-punk with zombie movie narrative interludes. Sure there a icy detached feeling to the tracks but there is also melody and plenty of pop hooks among the fuzzy production.

Built around chanting vocals, distorted instrumentation, and waves of static that suggest the last broadcast of man’s humanity, Deathface is a slice of severely damaged beauty, as it stands in contrast to omnipresent death and destruction. Served cold yet melodic, with chilling drum machine beats and a convincing odor of isolated detachment, Grave Babies´songs skirt the outer fringes of electro, punk, and Goth. Steeped in iconic pop hooks and garbled in suffocating tape fuzz, the music is blazed with an element of horror and beauty only reality can provide.
