Everyones favourite Pittsburghians(?) who seem to have an unhealthy obsession with all things Goblin/George A Romero are back with their 5th full length album and it sounds awesome!! There are 5 tracks on this album and each one could be deemed an epic classic. It's music from the best horror film you'll never see but you've heard your older cooler friend going on about it. Each track undulates and throbs in a really amazing way. These guys have channeled the best parts of Tangerine Dream and Giorgio Moroder and mebbe even a bit of Jon Carpenter and made a Frankenstein's monster of true greatness. The rich textured synths are punctuated by jaw dropping drum fills and flams that sound proper ace. Its a record that's over too quickly though, in my opinion. But I guess the fact it doesn't stay for too long makes you crave the throbbing synths and tight as you like drumming. Each song really is great. I like the absence of other instruments too, there is a lot of space on this LP for the keyboard/drum dynamic to have full effect. Any record that makes you visualise whole Italian horror films that haven't been committed to celluloid surely deserves the biggest props possible. A synth-based slice of genius pie. This record is awesome and any fan of horror soundtracks and Italian disco will need this in their collezione.
Escape Velocity sees Zombi return to their roots, using synth, and drums to create stirring melodies and moving cadences. Whereas earlier efforts found the band entrenched in Italian horror scores, Escape Velocity finds Zombi continuing their exploration of famed Italian record producer Giorgio Moroder and legendary Kraut Rock icons Neu and Harmonia. The sweeping synth sequences and pulsing rhythms are sometimes dancey, sometimes reflective, but always hypnotic under the watchful eye of this distinguished duo. Escape Velocity’s five ethereal tracks are simply put, celestial music for other worlds.
