Psychedelic Horseshit - Laced

Laced by Psychedelic Horseshit

Yikes! Ive got something to review from this year, which is all well and good but my brain is now locked into 1940s/1950s mode thus rendering all modern music a veritable hotchpotch of bleeps and squeals. God knows what would happen if I heard a Van Halen guitar solo. I'd probably ingest myself. So, dear readers, you are gonna have to bear with me on this one. The new full length album from Psychedelic Horseshit is a lo-fi smorgasbord of experimental songs with an undercurrent of knowing humour and bittersweet melodies. It reminds me of Fergus & Geronimo or Times New Viking or summat. It's inexpensive-sounding drum machines and 4 track recording techniques all the way on this one. Some of it actually sounds quite sweeping and, dare I say it...grandiose. The songs are pretty strong too. Some lollop around on a John Shuttleworth style drum loop, while others such as the drum circle (ewww!!) led "Another Side" showcase their dirty hippie side. You can almost smell Swampy from here. Some of the songs have a sloppy almost GBV feel, such as the sweet "French Countryside". All in all though it's a very varied and strangely catchy album with lots of moments that will make your ear holes flap about the place. Comes with a download code that is a gateway into the body of Christopher Cross.
