SIC’s newest signing, a four piece from Chicago, called A Lull. is a bit of an odd beast. An enormous, elegant, graceful, precision-built mechanical beast, whirring and thumping, rhythmically and purposefully. And sweetly.
Imagine Thom Yorke roping in Steve Mason, Pink Floyd and These New Puritans to score a an old-school Terry Gilliam epic about shipbuilding after the industrial revolution. Go on. Close your eyes.
Wide-eyed vocals narrate as blacksmith percussion skips around deep thudding rhythms, while chopped hypnotic choirs pulse and guitars spark overhead as each song builds into something wholly unexpected, colossally beautiful and scarily unstoppable.
Their debut album CONFETTI is something really quite unique. They have taken some very odd sounds, unusually percussive and rhythmic vocals and made something that is really rather beautiful and extremely accessible and, sare we say it, poppy.
