The High Llamas - Damby Delight / Spring The Surprise

Damby Delight / Spring The Surprise by The High Llamas

The new High Llamas album is unutterably and irreparably gorgeous in every single way possible. It soothes me on a daily basis, please see my review elsewhere for more evidence and gushing. This is an accompanying single for Record Store Day and is much different in substance in that it contains leader Sean O'Hagan's solo instrumental wanderings. One side is beautifully plucked banjo, ice rink organ and guitar recalling the naive childlike melodies on The Beach Boys 'Love You' album but set to a  bossa nova beat, the other more electronic based ramblings with a feel not unlike The Beach Boys magnificent underrated 'Diamond Head' full of melodic twists and turns. A quirky treat. Sean O'Hagan is a very clever and talented man and should be a national treasure. There I've said it.
