Study Series 6: Animation And Interpretation by Jonny Trunk

I always get super éxcited when we get new Ghost Box goodness. I love the whole schtick with the label. The design and aesthetic of the label is really strong and it's good to see a label with a strong identity in this day and age. They don't veer too much from their path but I quite like that as you know what you're getting. Here's a 7" by Jonny Trunk which is Mr Trunk making some old noodly soundtracky sounding gear for stop motion animations (something very close to my heart as I make really crap ones in my decreasing spare time). Here you get strange creaking noises and vintage sounds over a simple beat creating a haunting vibe. You can imagine some old clockwork toys doing sinister things to do this. Well I can anyway but that's the kind of thing that goes through my head... Old clockwork toys destroying each other. There's not too much going on here though... It's a simple sparse approach which works well on 7" format. The flipside adopts a similar approach but it has more of an electronic feel to it. A great little single!

Jonny Trunk, is the head of re-issue
label Trunk Records and natural ally
of the world of Ghost Box. On this
single Trunk plays with a wonderfully
woolly palette of electronic sound
reminiscent of grainy old stop motion
animation soundtracks.
