Daniel Knox - Evryman For Himself

Daniel Knox moved to Chicago from Springfield in 1999 to attend film school. Frustrated with classes, he spent most nights sneaking into the Hilton Tower’s Grand Ballroom where he taught himself to play their piano. Years later, he has amassed a dark and diverse repertoire, addictive as much for its narrative and lyrical deftness as for its musical lure. With comparisons being made to songwriters such as Randy Newman, Richard Swift and Antony & the Johnsons, Knox - who has already shared stages with Damon Albarn, Rufus Wainwright, and the Handsome Family - is fast living up to the London Evening Standard's proclamation that he's "a name to watch". Knox recorded Evryman for Himself, mostly in his kitchen, with contributions from David Coulter (Damon Albarn, Nick Cave) and Ralph Carney (the B52's, Tom Waits, The Black Keys). It is the second album in an envisioned trilogy, with the self-released Disaster and the forthcoming Chasescene. Like an ill-tempered Irving Berlin or a Harold Arlen for the darker set, he bellows tales of disillusionment, obsession, and criminal intent. A rogue at the piano, Knox croons and sneers so that his cast of characters may speak. Recent Activity: Appears on Jarvis Cocker's Further Complications (Rough Trade 2009) /  'Redhanded' featured in the short film, The Taxidermist (Bertie Films, UK, winner of the Palm Springs International Film Festival 2009).
