Dead Gaze - Somewhere Else

Somewhere Else by Dead Gaze

4...according to our on Wed 13 Apr, 2011.

Dead Gaze is Cole Furlow. He gets this guy James Alexander Warren to drum with him. He sorta does that watery lo-fi semi-hypnogogic pop thing a bit like what Gary War does I guess. Or Ariel Pink? Yeah deffoes some of Ariel Pink, especially when he does his wonky falsetto wailing. 'Somewhere Else' is definitely a pretty nice tune, slow-paced and almost ballad-y, which I can well imagine loads of freaks waving their lighters to while getting high off their heads with Fanta bottle bongs, avoiding the dog shit on Bridlington beach. 'Enz' is far more ambient workout which seems to sound equally as good at either speed while 'Fishing With Robert' is a psych-y strummalong which, demented merman vocals excepted, kinda reminds me of many a Dandy Warhols album track..

We've let this wall become our only skyline.
From above, shadows throw themselves into a summer routine.
Whatever, our bodies have drowned
under this music running out from the kitchen tap.

Cole Furlow (along with drummer James Alexander Warren) builds some
DIY tunes influenced by his native ground, the Mississippi state.
A clever mix of lo-fi pop and "checked-free" grunge.
Some songs that stick to your heart.
And for a long time.
