Dennis Coffey - All Your Goodies Are Gone

All Your Goodies Are Gone by Dennis Coffey

Detroit guitar legend, Dennis Coffey, previews his excellent forthcoming self-titled album with two essential cuts from the sessions on a 45, a cover of the Parliaments’ ’All Your Goodies Are Gone’ featuring Mayer Hawthorne and a new composition, ’Miss Millie’, featuring Kings Go Forth.

For the new album, Coffey cherry-picked a selection of ’70s songs on which he first appeared as a musician. Having worked with George Clinton on the original Parliaments recording of the defiant soul swayer ’All Your Goodies Are Gone’ in Detroit in 1967, he reprises the track here, enlisting Stones Throw’s soul hero Mayer Hawthorne on a superb update.

On the flip, Coffey hooks up with Milwaukee soul sensations Kings Go Forth (Luaka Bop) for a tribute to his wife, ’Miss Millie’. Recorded in gloriously crunchy analogue and built up around a Coffey fuzz guitar line idea, the eventual track was honed into a modern breakbeat classic, a fierce, blasting hunk o’funk complete with anthemic horns and a firing Hammond solo.

Tracklisting:

A: All Your Goodies Are Gone (feat Mayer Hawthorne)
B: Miss Millie (feat Kings Go Forth)
