This was originally due to be released AAAAAAGES ago. We finally cancelled all the pre-orders for it only for it to be re-sold to us as 'finally coming out'. Always the way. So was it worth the wait? Well I'm the one charged with being the judge of that and I think I'll say "Yes, yes it was". It's a bit of a surprise actually, I was expecting a total noiseblast featuring his usual screeching violin but instead what I've got is a slice of eighties period David Bowie. Think 'Fashion' or even a little Tin Machine perhaps, at a push, only more heartfelt and with the sheen taken off. It's quite a touching piece of synthpop actually! Sounding simultaneously retro and current, It really reminds me of that amazing Richard Youngs 'Beyond the Valley of Ultrahits' LP in that way now I start to think about it. 'Condo Stress' on the flip is a crooned piano ballad overlaid with touches of weirdness (what on Earth is that instrument doing the soloing there?) Dude can actually write songs! Who knew?
I'm the rabbit who believes in the magic (in a way that a tiny girl can inspire quiet men), and it's the magic that keeps me in the dark (in the larger view, of producing records pursuing 1). Electronics Music, 2). 'Music as Furniture' (Modernistic Music), 3). Music with experimental new vision. These are Songs that are Those Things. And these are essentially the first of C S Yeh's efforts to be widely available, discounting songs from 2002, documented previously by WHAT THE...? records.
