Hailing from east London, Balistiq Beats are production duo Andrew and Ryan, best known for their work in the grime scene. Yet ‘Yardman Riddim’, a tribute to the spirit of Jamaican culture, finds itself at the confluence of reggae, dubstep and grime. The riddim version has been vocalled by four of the most Yard MCs in grime ; Roll Deep’s Riko and Killa P, former RD member Jamakabi, and Badness, and their quartet of versions make up this EP, alongside the instrumental cut. “To be Yard ain't something you can just acquire. You're either from there or you ain't. You have to be from yard to be from Yard, but if you're Caribbean you get a bly as its all the same culture. It's how you are raised, what your nan cooks and the banter you have with each other that's all yard. It's amazing how one small set of islands can have the social culture like it has…” they insist. Balistiq Beats have also produced for JME, Riko, Badness, Wiley and Doctor, while working closely out of Trim’s camp.
