This trio are coming straight at you from Olympia, Washington with two guitars, a drum kit and a pocket full of Kryptonite. Well mebbe not the Kryptonite part but the two guitars and drum set part is disarmingly accurate. This EP has a certain rawness to it, that sounds ace. Its kind of like the Meat Puppets mixed with Susan Sontag or summat. The tunes are upbeat and they are fairly straight forward but this isn't a bad thing. I like their directness actually. You know what your getting into with these dudes. This EP has some really great moments on it, like the chord sequence that breaks out in the middle of track 3, its a truly ace moment. For some reason they remind me of Husker Du. It must be summat in the water. This band are like a tightly coiled spring waiting to go off in your face. They are spiky and ever so tuneful. The hooks spill from the songs. Don't look for them on My Space they don't have one, but you will find them if you want them.....if you book them they will come. A sweet EP that has many good things too offer and seldom crap moments...WINNER!!!!
Olympia, Washington's enjoying some of the best bands in the country again, and out from the basement comes High PlacesEP by Gun Outfit. The group's timeless, dueling guitar work twists and braids with melody around the trading vocalists, hypnotizing a growing legion of true believers stateside and abroad. Carrie Keith and Dylan Sharp shred with patience and deliberation, casting spells with the grace and power of Patti Smith or Husker Du, the lyricism and six-string tenacity of Felt or Television. Four songs and an empty room, you'll sit close to the needle to put it on over and over again. After last year's triumphant Possession Sounds LP (PPM), High Placesis a bright, open page in Gun Outfit's continuing songbook.
