Glass Jar / Mindkilla by Gang Gang Dance

Do I always review these guys? I've been reasonably excited about new material as that Saint Dymphna LP was largely a total treat. Now on 4AD, they haven't compromised their druggy, cosmic vision. They've just made it crisper & more widescreen than ever. I'm a big lover of the mindset they often land me in. Managing to splice ethereal & tropical moods with euphoric, dizzying fizzing synths into a bobbing, swirling hyper-pop odyssey like the epic 'Glass Jar' is quite an achievement really. They're an odd bunch with a very unusual outlook but somehow they always impress me. 'MindKilla' is another slice of kuduro inspired sky-scraping weird-pop with Lizzi's childlike voice heavily bent & mangled over a floor-wrecking Buraka Som Sistema-esque beat with some fantastic psychedelic synth action borrowed from the fringes of modern bass music. So it could realistically result in a catoonish nightmare but in the hands of these hardy post-rave experimentalists you're in safe hands

•    Gang Gang Dance are set to release ‘Eye Contact’, their first album since signing to 4AD. As a precursor to this, the New York based act issue this double A-side 12” ‘Glass Jar’ / ‘MindKilla’.

•    Recorded with long-term collaborator Chris Coady (Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Zola Jesus, Beach House and TV On The Radio), ‘Eye Contact’s opening track 'Glass Jar' begins with the brief declaration "I can hear everything. It's everything time", and then morphs effortlessly into an audacious eleven- minute slow-burner.

•    The anthemic ‘MindKilla’ offers a more melodic and succinct Gang Gang Dance, led by the distinct vocals of Lizzi Bougatsos.

•    Released as a special edition 12” in deluxe sleeve.
