...according to our Dave on Thu 31 Mar, 2011.
I never knew what to make of The Kills. To me they seemed to spring up around the time when loads of crappy bands with "The" something or others started to get in my face... You know THE Killers... THE Thrills... The Eyes of Piss... THE FuckyWanks... all bands that exist... and whilst some are tolerable others get right on my nerves. The Kills are hipster favorites. I've just seen pictures of them hanging out with models and smoking fags an stuff. The new album has a few good moments on it. I just read about them and they cite Captain Beefheart as one of their influences. They don't sound owt like Beefy but I reckon you can if you wanted to say that their lolloping drum beats and occasional fuzzy guitar wailings do have a touch of Van Vilet to them. Mebbe. They have a stripped back sound and some good songs that will no doubt end up on Go Wanks Fashion Dixxs. It's music for anorexic fashion types and foppish fag smoking ponces. They eschew interviews and stuff yet they still pack out venues so they must be doing summat right. The album has some dodgy moments as well but what do you expect when the protagonists are snorting crack and hanging out with waifs. A final thought... if elephants never forget why aren't they on Mastermind..??
