Well this is going to sell anyway so it doesn't matter what I say here. Ok then............sausages, roundabout, teeth, whip. Seriously though, the Fourtet side follows on from the 4/4 exploits of his last opus 'There is Love in You' built around a lovely one note piano motif, watery synths and bubbly acid bass it shuffles along nicely occasionally hitting a Balearic/Italian house vibe which threatens but never engulfs the track. It's a superbly put together piece with different elements sneaking in and out of the mix. There are hints of Arthur Russell's mutant disco explorations within these grooves and one highly recommends. On the flip we have Caribou (I sighed then by the way but you couldn't hear it). Am I the only person in the world to hate Caribou's 'Swim' album? Possibly yes. When I first heard it here at Normans Towers I barked with laughter shouting 'He's killed his career!' and on repeated plays it seemed to get even worse. But there's no accounting for people liking shit music so of course it was lauded everywhere by people who get bored after a two bar synth riff (which is basically what the album amounts to). Here, he tries to make amends with a weird slab of off disco funk with cut up vocals that don't sound that dissimilar to the 'dog' sounds on an old Casio SK1. Dog or no dog this is gonna fly out so be quick.
Daphni is Caribou's alter ego...
Four Tet is that Kieran Hebden fella
