Hotel Mexico - It's Twinkle / Do You Do You Haia

It's Twinkle / Do You Do You Haia by Hotel Mexico

Thank crunchie its twinkle. The A side here is probably one of the better things I've heard today. Its a shoegaze synth type of hybrid with nods towards Blonde Redhead, M83 and School of Seven Bells. The Eastern melodies and atmospheres contained within make sense when you find out that they are from Japan. Like a lot of stuff around at the moment it has that hazy thing going on which is of course quite appealing, there are lots of tumbling melodies and washed out vocals. You know what? I'm quite impressed.

Full force mayhem from Japan, Hotel Mexico come from Kyoto but their Pitchfork-approved sound has been much influenced by the US and UK bands, with dense feedbacks, glorious super-melody riffs, and glorious pulsing basslines. They've played with The XX and have found love from Altered Zones of late, as well as the aforementioned megablog.
